Pointe-Noire is located less than 2 minutes by car from the West Indies Cottage lodges, it owes its name to the black rocks straight out of the lava flows of ancient volcanoes: “la Couronne” and “la Belle Hôtesse”.
This volcanic past is still very present in the current landscape:

The Trace des Contrebandiers crossing the mountain range, separating the Cote le Vent and connecting the heights from Petite-Plaine to Pointe-Noire to Duportail south of Sainte-Rose. (5 minutes from the West Indies Cottage)
Through hills and valleys, Pointe-Noire offers some of the most famous waterfalls and rivers:
The Saut d’Acomat large pool and its fall in a tropical setting; the walk is accessible to all (5 minutes from the West Indies Cottage).
The rivière de Petite Plaine an ideal family walk for a picnic, the setting exudes tranquility (3 minutes from the West Indies Cottage).
Deshaies is about 15 minutes from the West Indies Cottage.
It is known for its beautiful golden sandy beaches and beautiful sunsets: Grande Anse beach, La Perle beach, Leroux beach and Fort Royal beach will offer you enchanting landscapes.
Bouillante is a town renowned for its nautical activities, 10 minutes from the West Indies Cottage.
The Cousteau Reserve is the main tourist site, with all the nautical activities available: kayaking, diving and also nautical excursions “discovery of cetaceans” (dolphins, whales, sperm whales).
Mountainous region, full of hot springs, rivers, waterfalls.
La Soufrière, active volcano, located in Saint-Claude, is only 50 minutes from the West Indies Cottage and the yellow baths, hot springs at the foot of La Soufrière, located at the beginning of the “Pas du Roy” trail.
